Nivia Gonzales's work conveys more than the inner piece and strength of Hispanic women. Her figures radiate universal qualities of faith and pride. This gives her work an accessibility not often found in contemporary art. The solidity of her figures recalls those of Diego Rivera, while her superb application of gold leaf stems from early Christen art. It is therefore not surprising that this native of Austin, Texas was awarded for " Outstanding Achievement in the Arts" by the Mexican American Women's National Association in Washington, DC.
While Nivia's work is no longer found and only a few of her images are available to the public, she will always be identified with the Southwest, she has studied both in Texas and on the east coast. She holds an M.A. in Art Education from the Univ.of Texas. Nivia's images are most collectible.
