Dewayne Mathews "Fishing Hawk" is a member of the Cherokee nation. Dewayne has a degree from the University of Oklahoma and is a graduate from the Institute of the American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dewayne specializes in Mississippi cultures circa 2200 BC to 1500 AD. For the past few years, Dewayne has been creating monotypes in rendering interpretations of Mississippi imagery. His art consists of representations and renderings that attempt to express the aesthetic nature of the early Southeastern Mound Cultures. Dewayne's work is widely collected and appears in a number of museums such as the Phillbrook Museum in Tulsa, OK.
